2016 Monthly Keyword Reading Challenge Sign-ups!

2016.MonthlyKeyword.ButtonWelcome to the 4th Annual Monthly Keyword Reading Challenge! This reading challenge was originally hosted by Kimberly over at Bookmark to Blog, and has graciously handed her creative whim over to My Soul Called Life!

How does this challenge work?

For this challenge, I have chosen six keywords associated with each month in 2016. Your task is to read one book each month whose title includes one or more of the keywords for that month. Simple right?

Challenge Guidelines

  • This challenge will run from January 1, 2016 – December 31, 2016
  • You can join anytime before December 31, 2016
  • Books must be read and reviewed in 2016
  • You don’t have to be a book blogger to participate! You can track your progress on Goodreads, Shelfari, Booklikes, etc.
  • The book title you choose can be a variation on one of the keywords. For example, your title could include the word ‘snowing’ or ‘snowflake’ even though the key word is ‘snow.’
  • Keywords can be tweaked. For example, you could read Cinder or Snow Like Ashes for the keyword ‘fire‘ and that would be just fine. If the key word is ‘family‘ then your title could include the word ‘sister’ or ‘mother.’ If the key word is ‘food‘ then your title could include the word ‘cake’ or ‘milk.’ It’s similar to the word game Word Association
  • Link up below to participate linking your post, Goodreads shelf, etc.
  • Lastly, have fun! This challenge is simply for the pure satisfaction of reading so please don’t worry if you have to skip a month or if you have to read your books out of order!

I will have a new Linky tool setup for you to add your book reviews by January 1, 2016. Also, please note that reviews can only be linked up once in 2016. One more reminder, if you are not a blogger, you can link up your Goodreads or Booklikes reviews.

50 thoughts on “2016 Monthly Keyword Reading Challenge Sign-ups!

    1. I’m still trying to round up all the challenges I will be participating in next year – there are so many great ones out there, it’s hard to narrow it down! I’m so glad you joined this one, I’m not going to lie, it’s a tough challenge, but fun nonetheless

    1. That could work, just as long as the word doesn’t bend too far back from the actual keyword

For example, for the word “crowd” thesaurus pulls up words such as: crew, party, group, horde, mass, mob, legion, people, army, posse, friends, faction, clique, pack, flock, etc. these words are fine, but words such as stream, scores, jam, set, elbow wouldn’t work.

      Does this help?

  1. Glad you’re taking this on–I’ve enjoyed it the last several years. I’ll be checking through my TBR titles tomorrow to see if these keywords will work for me in 2016 (I hope so!). My New Year’s resolution for 2016 is to read only from my huge TBR list, so I’ve got to have the books on had to do this. Hope to have a sign-up post ready to go on Saturday!

      1. How did you find books for the keywords? I am interested in doing this challenge, but worried about not being able to find books to fit the keywords.

        1. Well…I keep a massive spreadsheet of the books on my TBR pile (I’m a book-aholic and have over a thousand books). I just did a search through my titles–which is easy with the Excel spreadsheet–and looked for keywords for each month. If you have a list in Goodreads (or somewhere else online) you could probably do a similar thing.

  2. Claudia: I have, as you suggested, joined the group on Facebook and added a link to my list. Since most of my book possibilities are vintage mysteries, I’m not sure how popular the suggestions will be. But you’re all welcome to them!

  3. Just came across your challenge and it sounds rather intriguing so I have signed up and look forward to picking out suitable titles to read each month.

    1. As long as the bible you are reading has the keyword “the” in it, then you are good to go! I’m only saying this because I’ve seen some bibles simply say, “Bible.” So just so we’re clear, make sure the bible you are going to read has the word “the” in the title; happy reading!

  4. This is such a cool idea I think I will participate. I have two websites so is it ok if I link to GR but link up to the website I post to every month? Unless this is YA specific then I’ll link to one blog only

  5. What fun! I’m so in, but I don’t think I can “officially” participate. Life promises to be beyond hectic, and while I’ll be reading around 100 books this year, I’m not sure I can commit to making my brain keep track of one more thing. Paint me as an unofficial participant.
