My personal goal when reviewing the books that I read is to share my honest thoughts and experience. Having said that, it is only fair to let it be known that the books that have been reviewed and featured on My Soul Called Life have been measured and rated under my personal worldview; thus, they are subjective, but honest all the same.
Furthermore, I cannot promise a positive review; be that as it may, please know that my aim is not to offend the author or publisher. Lastly, bear in mind that I do this purely for the enjoyment I receive from both reading your books and sharing my thoughts.
| REVIEW SYSTEM |
Each book review is shared on Goodreads, Amazon, Facebook, Pinterest, Google+ and Twitter
➜ A book cover (from Goodreads)
➜ Blurb (from Goodreads)
➜ Details: title, author, number of pages, date of publication, format in which book was read, genre, purchase links
➜ My personal thoughts and overall experience with the book
➜ I force myself to list 3 things I liked about the book, and 3 things I did not like about the book as constructive criticism
➜ My personal rating [1-5 Sparrowhawks]
The contents of the books I read are generally filtered and rated under the following categories and graded in a point value system:
- World Building
- Mood & Tone
- Writing Style
- Cover Art
- Overall Impression
Along with the rating scale, I have also created and implemented a content rating guide to help give more perspective. This of course, is mostly subjected to fictional books as opposed to informational & non-fictional books:
|Drugs & Alcohol||Minor||Mild||Moderate||Heavy||Extreme|
|RECOMMENDED FOR||YA 18+|
Death, loss of a loved one, war, sexual harassment and general bullying, PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), same-sex innuendo, sex out of marriage, marital affairs, adult drinking, abuse of alcohol, orphans
As a wife, mother, sister, friend and daughter, my goal is simply to help readers make informed decisions about their future reads. Taking that into consideration, my opinion may not be your opinion, however, we have the freedom to subject our opinions to our own standards.
